Wind & dispersion
Checking the KSFO observation…
Shaded sector is the corridor of wind bearings that carry SFO ground
emissions over the monitored location. Ticks mark individual sources.
Scored: wind bearing, speed, mixing depth, and air
temperature, which lifts fuel-tank venting but not engine exhaust.
Humidity and rain are shown for context only — kerosene is
hydrophobic, so rain washes its vapour out poorly, and rain’s real
effect here is the stronger wind and deeper mixing already counted.
The grey lobe inside the dial is terrain: the highest ground
within 8 km on each bearing. Flat toward the bay and the airport, a
ridge to the south-west — which is why the wind correction differs so
much by sector.
Reporting
BAAQMD 24-hour odor line
1-800-334-6367. They ask for date, clock time, duration, intensity
and wind direction — the CSV above carries all five.
Rotten-egg or sulfur instead of kerosene is natural gas, not jet fuel.
Leave the building and call PG&E at 1-800-743-5000.
Wind here is true north. SFO ATIS and METAR report magnetic,
about 13° lower — ATIS “040” is 053° true.
